The dealer (the nominal dealer) is responsible for shuffled and distributed cards for all hands. He or she must then offer the shuffled pack to the opponent for cut. Cards are then reshuffled and the process is repeated.

A showdown occurs when a player’s hand is revealed. Players then have the chance to discard or call a bet, which will then be gathered into the central pot. Depending on the game, this pot is either split between the highest and lowest hands, or may be awarded to the winner of the showdown.

Usually, players only place money into the pot if they are bluffing or trying to win. This is done by making a big bet, such as a raise, or by placing a minimum amount into the pot. Most games allow players to check or fold if they do not believe they are winning, and in no-limit games, there is no maximum amount of money that can be bet.
